My creative explorations with paint swatches more than a decade ago grew to include collages and paper-making of various shapes and sizes. Composition and balance are essential to my creative process, especially with paper, in order to produce works that consider color, texture, and materials that give a sense of depth and movement. I am inspired by traditional Japanese washi paper, a material generally tougher than paper made from wood pulp. I also enjoy mixing papers with a variety of textures, colors, opacity and shine to ensure harmonious balance. Paper-making frequently takes 1-2 hours per sheet, and includes the treatment, pressing, and storage of locally-sourced pulp.
